The Connecticut Chapter of the National Speaker’s Association (NSA-CT) was chartered in 2003. Abby Marks Beale, Susan Keane Baker and Marcie Shepard were driving forces behind the chartering. Abby, with Susan and Marcie’s help, had been running an informal speaker’s group in Connecticut for several years before the members of the group voted to become an affiliated chapter of NSA. Abby served as the chapter’s first president.

We currently hold regular general meetings 8-9 times a year for members and guests on the second Thursday evening of each month, from September – June except for December when there will be a special holiday celebration scheduled. Quality speakers are brought in to speak to the professional members and guests on topics that support either enhancing speaking skills or supporting expansion and development of their speaking business. As a bonus for members, member-only Fireside meetings are held periodically throughout the year to support specialized and in-depth learning on particular topics to support professional development. As an additional bonus for aspiring speakers, we have a Speakers Academy Program offered every February-May as part of an ongoing chapter effort to help aspiring and new speakers become successful in the business of professional speaking, and assist them in qualifying for NSA national membership. The program is designed for applicants, who want a structured, in-person program for developing their speaking career.

Our operating year is July 1 to June 30th. At the year-end meeting in June, as part of our Annual Awards Ceremony, a Chapter Member of the Year and the Abby Marks Beale awards are given to deserving volunteers who have contributed their time and talents throughout the year.

We welcome and encourage others becoming involved in the chapter. In addition to our board of Directors, there are many positions available for those wishing to get more involved, helping to expand our chapter, add additional offerings, and create a solid supportive community of mutual referrals and support.
